제 1막
제 1막 1장 : 화이트 크리스마스
이브
독일의 어느 작은 마을은 화이트 크리스마스 이브로 들떠 있다. 실버하우스씨의
저택에서 열리는 파티에 참석하기 위해 바쁘게 걷는 어린아이들과 부모들은 행복으로 가득한 미소를 지으며 파티장으로 들어온다.
Act 1
Act 1 Scene 1: White Christmas Eve
A small village in Germany is overjoyed with the
white Christmas Eve that they were having. Smiling children joyfully walk with
their parents to join the party being held at Mr. Silverhouse’s home.
실버하우스씨 저택에 열린 크리스마스 이브파티는 아름답고 화려한 크리스마스 장식과 개구쟁이 어린아이들을 기다리는 선물이 가득하다. 클라라의 대부이자 마법사인 드롯셀마이어는 신비한 마술로 파티를 더욱 즐겁게 이끌어간다. 드롯셀마이어는 딸인 클라라에게 호두까기인형을 선물한다. 그러나 장난꾸러기 프릿츠의 장난으로 호두까기인형은 심하게 망가져 드롯셀마이어는 호두까기인형을 고쳐주고 딸을 위로하는 사이 파티장의 시계는 자정을 가르키면서 파티장에 사람들은 집으로 돌아간다.
Act 1 Scene 2: The Party at Mr. Silverhouse’s Home
The Christmas Eve party at Mr. Silverhouse’s home
is filled with beautiful and colorful decorations along with presents waiting
to be opened by the mischievous children. Drosselmeyer, who is Clara’s
godfather as well as a magician, brings further joy to the party with
mysterious magic. Drosselmeyer presents his daughter Clara with a nutcracker
for Christmas. However, due to a prank by the mischievous Fritz, the nutcracker
is damaged greatly. Drosselmeyer fixes the nutcracker and comforts Clara, but
during this time the clock strikes 12 and all the guests leave for home.
제 1막 3장 : 클라라의
침실
호두까기인형을
가슴에 껴안은 채 잠든 클라라의 꿈속에서 파티장의 작은 트리장식이 거실을 가득 채울 만큼 어마어마하게 커지고, 생쥐떼가
나타나 트리장식을 망가뜨리며 집안을 온통 난장판으로 만든다. 이때 트럼펫 소리와 함께 등장한 병정들은
생쥐떼를 물리치기 위해 대포를 동원해 전투를 벌인다. 클라라는 전투 중 위험에 처한 호두까기인형을 구해내고 생쥐떼를 물리친다. 호두까기인형이 고마움을 표하는 순간 호두까기인형은
멋진 왕자로 그리고 클라라는 아름다운 숙녀로 변신한다.
Act 1 Scene 3: Clara’s Bedroom
Clara falls asleep with the nutcracker wrapped
around her arms, and dreams that a tiny tree ornament grows to fill the whole
room. Then, a pack of rats come to destroy the tree ornament and cause a great
mess in her home. However, a group of soldiers arrive together with the sound
of trumpets, and shoot cannons to scare the pack of rats away. During this
battle Clara’s nutcracker faces of danger, but she saves the nutcracker and
scares the rats away. As the nutcracker is about to display his gratitude, he
transforms into a magnificent prince, and Clara transforms into a beautiful
lady.
제 1막 4장 : 한겨울 숲
속
어느새 클라라의 침실은 한 겨울의 숲 속으로 변하여 눈송이가 흩날린다. 축복의 반짝임으로 빛나는 눈송이들의 작별인사와 함께 클라라와 왕자는 사슴이 이끄는 썰매를 타고 신비의 나라로
여행을 떠난다.
Act 1 Scene 4: In the Middle of a Forest during Winter
Suddenly, Clara’s bedroom transforms into a forest
during winter with snowflakes flying through the air. Clara and the prince take
a sleigh pulled by reindeer on a journey to a fantasy land, and say farewell to
the snowflakes, glittering with blessings.
제 2막
제 2막 1장 : 환상의 나라로의 여행
여행을 즐거워하는 것도 잠시, 폭군 생쥐왕이 어느새 따라와 부하 생쥐들과 함께 클라라와 왕자를 공격하지만 왕자는 생쥐왕을 가볍게 물리치고, 나비들과 함께 신비의 나라로의 여행을 다시 하게 된다

Scene 1: Journey to a Fantasy Land
The joyful journey comes to a sudden halt when the
king of the tyrant rats and his followers attack Clara and the prince. However,
the prince easily defeats the rat king and Clara and the prince, accompanied by
butterflies, continue on their journey to the fantasy land.
제 2막 2장 : 신비한 궁전
드롯셀마이어가 마술지팡이를 흔들자 아름다운 궁전이 나타나고, 클라라의
방안에 있던 인형들이 모두 깨어나 팡파레를 울리면서 클라라와 왕자를 맞이한다. 인형들은 스페인 춤, 아라비아 춤, 중국 춤, 러시아
춤, 양치기 목동과 늑대의 춤으로 자신을 제각기 뽐내고, 로즈왈츠, 클라라와 왕자의 그랑 파드루가 이어지면서 신비로운 여행은 막을 내린다.
Act 2 Scene 2: Mysterious Palace
With a swipe of Drosselmeyer’s magic
wand, a beautiful palace appears. All the dolls in Clara’s room come to life and
welcome Clara and the prince with the sound of fanfare. The mysterious journey
is finished off with the dolls displaying dances from Spain, Arabia, China,
Russia, the dance of the shepherd and the wolf, and Clara and the prince’s
grand pas de roué, the rose waltz.
제 2막 3장: 클라라의 침실
지난 밤, 신비한 꿈의 여행에서 깨어난 클라라는 호두까기
인형을 품속에 껴안은 채 행복한 미소를 지으며 크리스마스 아침을 맞이한다.
Act 2 Scene 3: Clara’s Bedroom
Clara wakes up from her dream to the fantasy land, hugs her nutcracker doll and
starts off her Christmas morning with a happy smile.
